Kern County, California Inmate Search

A Kern County inmate search is the process of checking to see individuals who are currently in custody at Kern County detention facilities. It allows people to look up jail records to know whether an individual is currently housed in a detention facility. Kern County offers a public-facing resource managed by the Kern County Sheriff’s Office to check/lookup individuals in custody at any of its jail facilities. A similar resource is also available from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) to search for inmates housed in state correctional facilities in Kern County, including the North Kern State Prison, Delano; Kern Valley State Prison, Delano; California Correctional Institution, Tehachapi; and Wasco State Prison-Reception Center (WSP), Wasco.

A Kern County inmate search typically provides the inmate’s full name, booking number, date of birth, housing facility, charges, and custody status. Unlike some other jurisdictions, police departments in cities within Kern County do not run their own independent, public-facing jail rosters. This is because all bookings for the county jail and detention facilities, including for arrests made by city police departments like Bakersfield and Delano, are handled by the Kern County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO).
